Commissioned by the former Municipality of Agia Anna on the island of Evia, Landscape–Roidis Studio developed the landscape masterplan for the village’s coastal promenade, reimagining the waterfront as a vibrant public destination for residents and visitors alike. The project extends along a 2-kilometer seafront corridor, creating a continuous pedestrian experience that strengthens the relationship between the settlement and the sea.

The design focused on enhancing both the functionality and identity of the waterfront through a carefully coordinated landscape strategy. New paving, seating areas, and generous planting zones were introduced to establish a comfortable and visually cohesive public realm while accommodating the seasonal rhythms of this popular summer destination.

A key objective was the creation of a dynamic promenade that supports a variety of activities throughout the day. Pedestrian circulation was prioritized along the entire waterfront, while clearly defined outdoor zones were incorporated to accommodate cafés, restaurants, and social gathering spaces. These interventions contribute to a lively and adaptable public environment that encourages interaction with the coastline and supports local economic activity.

The planting strategy plays a central role in shaping the character of the promenade. A palette of summer-flowering shrubs, trees, and Mediterranean vegetation introduces seasonal color, shade, and texture, enhancing the sensory experience of the waterfront while reinforcing its distinct identity. The landscape framework also contributes to environmental comfort by providing shaded areas and improving the overall quality of the public realm.

From master planning and detailed design to construction supervision, the project demonstrates a holistic approach to coastal landscape design. The result is a contemporary seaside promenade that combines recreation, commerce, and public life within a cohesive landscape setting, transforming the waterfront into a defining civic space for Agia Anna and its visitors.
