Landscape–Roidis Studio designed the landscape for this seaside residence in Nea Potidea, nestled within a natural clearing among the characteristic pine forests of the Kassandra Peninsula. The mature trees and existing woodland setting provided the foundation for a design approach that celebrates outdoor living while preserving the site's distinctive natural character.
The project was conceived as a landscape for everyday enjoyment, where family life unfolds through a series of informal outdoor experiences. Rather than treating the garden as a purely visual composition, the design emphasizes use, movement, gathering, and direct engagement with the surrounding environment.
At the heart of the garden, a shaded pergola creates a comfortable outdoor living space integrated within the existing grove. Complementing this central gathering area are a custom-designed barbecue and an outdoor fireplace with built-in seating, forming a versatile setting for dining, relaxation, and social interaction throughout the year.
Materiality plays a key role in establishing a strong connection between the built elements and the landscape. Timber structures introduce warmth and a natural tactile quality, while locally sourced stone and traditional plaster finishes anchor the intervention within its Mediterranean context. The restrained palette allows the architecture to blend seamlessly with the surrounding vegetation and terrain.
The result is a garden that feels both natural and inhabited—a carefully crafted outdoor environment where architecture and landscape support a relaxed lifestyle rooted in the experience of place. Through minimal intervention and a sensitive response to the existing pine grove, the project transforms the site into a welcoming setting for family life within the unique coastal landscape of Chalkidiki.
