Panhellenic Architectural Competition of Asklipeios street in Trikala

Panhellenic Architectural Competition of Asklipeios street in Trikala

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The brief of the competition was asking for the redesign and reorganize the pedestrian road of Asklipios street in Trikala, Greece. The street is close to the river of the city. In between the road and the river there is a big square which was also part of the competition’s area. Most of the ground level uses along the road are coffee shops, which use a part of the outside space to place tables for the customers, whereas the circulation is done at the centre of the street. The first intention of the design was to place the tables of the coffee shops at the centre and along the street. This resulted into leaving the facades free of tables, and obstacles generally, and the circulation was transferred in front of the buildings, to each side of the road. The areas where the tables should be placed are clearly notified with pergola systems. An other intention was to create small plazas along the road in order to notify the major intersections with the street. The differentiation in the design and the water elements that where used in those areas made this notification possible.
