Landscape–Roidis Studio was commissioned by the Municipality of Kassandria to redesign the town’s principal commercial street, reimagining it as a contemporary public realm that prioritizes pedestrian activity, accessibility, and social interaction.
The project sought to transform a vehicle-dominated corridor into a cohesive urban environment where movement, gathering, and everyday life could coexist within a more comfortable and attractive setting. A new paving strategy established a unified spatial identity, enhancing visual continuity while improving accessibility and walkability throughout the street.
Tree planting, ornamental vegetation, and carefully positioned seating areas were integrated into the design to enrich the public experience and encourage longer stays within the space. The introduction of greenery not only contributes to the aesthetic quality of the streetscape but also improves environmental comfort by providing shade and softening the urban environment.
The design emphasizes simplicity, functionality, and human scale, creating a clear hierarchy of movement and public use. By reducing the visual dominance of vehicular infrastructure and strengthening the pedestrian character of the street, the intervention fosters a more vibrant and welcoming atmosphere for residents and visitors alike.
The result is a contemporary urban landscape that enhances the identity of Kassandria’s town center, transforming a key circulation route into an active public space that supports community life, commercial activity, and everyday social interaction.
