Commissioned by the Municipality of Elassona, Landscape–Roidis Studio designed Sitaropazaro Square, a 2,000 m² civic space in the historic center of the city. The project transformed a former surface parking area into a vibrant public square, restoring its role as a social and commercial destination while reinforcing the identity of Elassona's urban fabric.

Drawing inspiration from the spatial qualities of traditional Greek town squares, the design places a majestic plane tree (Platanus orientalis) at its center, creating a naturally shaded gathering space during the summer while allowing sunlight to penetrate the square in winter. This seasonal approach enhances user comfort and reflects the studio's commitment to climate-responsive public space design.

A linear water feature was introduced as a contemporary interpretation of the nearby river, establishing a subtle connection between the square and the broader landscape of Elassona. Water contributes both as a visual focal point and as a microclimatic element, enriching the sensory experience of the public realm.

The square was carefully organized to accommodate everyday urban life. Generous perimeter zones were designed for the outdoor terraces of cafés and restaurants, strengthening the relationship between public space and local commerce while encouraging social interaction throughout the day.

Materiality plays a defining role in the composition. Locally sourced natural flagstones are combined with rough-textured marble to create a durable and timeless paving palette rooted in the architectural traditions of the region. The restrained use of materials, together with the integration of water, vegetation, and generous pedestrian space, creates a civic landscape that is both contemporary and deeply connected to its local context.

Sitaropazaro Square demonstrates how thoughtful landscape architecture can regenerate underused urban spaces, transforming them into enduring public environments that celebrate local identity, climate, and community life.
