In 1999, Landscape–Roidis Studio was commissioned by Fibran S.A. to design the landscape surrounding the new Cathedral Church in the village of Terpni, Greece. The commission encompassed the church forecourt and the adjoining public square, creating a unified 1,500 m² civic space that serves both the religious and social life of the community.

The design sought to reinforce the architectural presence of the cathedral while establishing an inviting public realm capable of accommodating everyday gatherings, religious celebrations, and community events. Rather than functioning solely as an entrance to the church, the square was conceived as an independent civic space that strengthens the relationship between the building and the village.

Materiality plays a central role in the composition. Inspired by the church’s stone and brick façades, the paving combines red pavers, white marble, and locally sourced schist flagstones, creating a timeless palette that reflects the architectural identity and cultural character of the place.

A carefully integrated planting strategy introduces new shade trees that enhance environmental comfort and provide shelter for visitors and pilgrims, particularly during outdoor liturgical ceremonies. The result is a balanced landscape where architecture, materials, and vegetation come together to create a dignified and welcoming public space rooted in its local context.
