Katerini is a city in Northern Greece with 90.000 inhabitants. It is a flat inland city situated amidst agricultural land. The city, besides its central square, lacks of organized open spaces, parks and squares in its various neighborhoods.
Landscape -Roidis was commissioned by Pieriki SA, a municipality company, to design 17 new squares. Some of them are situated in the historic center of the city, and some of them were just open land in the outskirts of the city. The scope of the Study is the creation of neighborhood parks and squares with adequate greenery, children’s play areas, sitting areas, small plazas for gathering, water features, etc.
Landscape-Roidis’s landscape design, following bioclimatic criteria from the master plan up to detailed design, shape a unique character to every one of the 17 squares/parks, in order to serve as focal point of the specific neighborhood. Every square has pedestrian ways and lots of sitting places, organized parking lots where appropriate, pavement with cold materials, greenery with a lot of new trees and shrubs, modern lighting. Our design objective is to create squares/parks impressive and friendly to the citizens.
