Onassis Cardiac Surgery Center

Onassis Cardiac Surgery Center, athens

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The Management Committee of the Onassis cardio surgical center launched Panhellenic architectural competition for the redevelopment of surrounding the building green zone and the level of the ground floor of the building, essentially a “green roof” where is located and the commemorative tomb in Alexander Onassis. The office took the first prize and prepared the full landscape architecture study for the space. It was considered beforehand that the main entrance of the hospital should be overemphasized and therefore two large palms were selected, symmetrically mounted on either side of the central staircase. The large palms also had strong “dialog” with the already planted ones in Syngrou Avenue. The curve morphology of the remaining plantings created intensity and interest in linear perimetric planter. Finally, the cypress trees on rear contribute to semantics of intensity which causes the sleek volume of the building.
