PROJECT DESCRIPTION

In 2011, Landscape–Roidis Studio was commissioned to develop the landscape design for a commercial facility in Farsala, creating an outdoor environment that enhances both the visual identity and functionality of the property. Although modest in scale, the project demonstrates the important role of landscape architecture in shaping the visitor experience and reinforcing the character of commercial developments.

The design strategy focused on the careful organisation of planting areas to establish a clear and legible spatial framework throughout the site. Strategic planting compositions were used to define circulation routes, accentuate arrival sequences, and highlight key architectural elements, particularly the main entrances and areas associated with different commercial functions. Through the thoughtful arrangement of vegetation, the landscape contributes to wayfinding while improving the overall perception and usability of the development.

A combination of ornamental shrubs, groundcover species, and decorative pebble surfaces was employed to create texture, contrast, and visual interest. The interplay between planting and mineral materials introduces a refined landscape language that enhances the architecture without competing with it. Carefully articulated planting beds also soften the hardscape environment, creating a more welcoming and human-scaled setting for visitors and customers.

The selection of plant species was guided by principles of sustainability and long-term performance. Drought-tolerant and climate-adapted vegetation was chosen to ensure resilience under local environmental conditions while minimising maintenance requirements and resource consumption. This approach contributes to the creation of a durable and environmentally responsible landscape.

Through the integration of planting, materials, and spatial organisation, the project transforms a conventional commercial setting into a coherent and visually distinctive environment. The result is a landscape that supports the operational needs of the facility while enhancing its identity, demonstrating how targeted landscape interventions can add value to everyday commercial spaces.
