Commissioned by the Municipality of Feneos in Corinthia, Peloponnese, Landscape–Roidis Studio developed the landscape redesign of the central square of Mosia village and the surrounding grounds of St. Nicholas Church. Covering approximately 3,000 m², the project sought to reinforce the presence of the historic church while creating a vibrant public space capable of supporting the everyday social life of the community.
The design establishes a balanced relationship between civic and religious functions, transforming the church forecourt and adjacent square into a cohesive landscape that encourages gathering, movement, and informal interaction. Natural stone paving, sourced locally, follows patterns inspired by the region’s architectural heritage, strengthening the connection between the intervention and its cultural context. Carefully integrated planting areas introduce seasonal variation and soften the public realm while preserving the square’s open character.
Situated at a relatively high elevation within the Mediterranean climatic zone, the project responds to local environmental conditions through the selection of resilient plant species, durable paving materials, and context-appropriate urban furnishings. These elements contribute to the long-term sustainability of the intervention while ensuring comfort throughout the year.
The result is a contemporary public landscape rooted in local identity, where architecture, planting, and public space come together to enhance the character of the village and create a welcoming setting for community life.
