Landscape–Roidis Studio was commissioned by the former Municipality of Vrasna to develop the comprehensive landscape masterplan for the village’s seafront promenade, transforming the coastal edge into a continuous public realm that strengthens the relationship between the settlement and the sea. Extending approximately 4 kilometers in length and 30–35 meters in width, the project redefined the waterfront as a multifunctional landscape corridor designed for recreation, movement, and social interaction.
The proposal introduced a carefully organized circulation network comprising a gently curving low-speed roadway, dedicated pedestrian promenades, and a bicycle route, ensuring a balanced coexistence of different modes of movement while prioritizing the public experience. Along the waterfront, a sequence of seating areas, shaded gathering spaces, and landscaped zones creates opportunities for relaxation and engagement with the coastal environment.
Special attention was given to the integration of local commercial activity. Clearly defined outdoor areas were designated for cafés and restaurants, allowing hospitality uses to animate the promenade while maintaining unobstructed pedestrian circulation and visual continuity along the seafront.
The planting strategy plays a central role in shaping the identity of the project. Mediterranean trees, coastal vegetation, and summer-flowering shrubs introduce seasonal color, shade, and environmental resilience, enriching the pedestrian experience while responding to the climatic conditions of the area. Extensive greenery softens the public realm and contributes to a more comfortable microclimate throughout the year.
The result is a contemporary waterfront landscape that combines mobility, recreation, commerce, and ecology within a coherent design framework. By establishing a strong spatial identity and enhancing public access to the coastline, the project creates a vibrant and attractive destination for both residents and visitors.
