Commissioned in 1985 by the former Municipality of Kallithea, Chalkidiki, Landscape–Roidis Studio developed a comprehensive streetscape redesign aimed at enhancing the quality and identity of the village’s public realm. The intervention transformed a network of vehicular streets into a pedestrian-oriented environment that prioritises accessibility, comfort, and social interaction.

The design introduced a cohesive urban language through the implementation of distinctive paving patterns, integrated planting schemes, and carefully positioned seating areas. Trees and shrubs were selected to enrich the streetscape, provide shade, and improve the microclimate, while creating a greener and more inviting environment for residents and visitors alike.

Particular emphasis was placed on strengthening the pedestrian experience and establishing a continuous public space capable of accommodating everyday activities as well as the significant seasonal increase in population associated with tourism. The reorganisation of circulation and the introduction of resting areas encourage informal gathering, outdoor living, and a stronger connection between public space and community life.

Through a balanced combination of landscape and urban design strategies, the project redefined the character of the village centre, creating a calm and welcoming atmosphere that supports both functionality and place-making. More than a streetscape improvement, the intervention established a durable public framework that continues to contribute to the social and environmental quality of Kallithea’s urban fabric.
