Commissioned by Parconstructional shpk in 2019, Landscape–Roidis Studio developed the architectural design for a new pedestrian bridge spanning the Lana River in Tirana, Albania. Conceived as both an infrastructure project and a civic landmark, the bridge strengthens connectivity between two urban neighborhoods while contributing a contemporary architectural presence to the city’s evolving public realm.
Extending 150 meters across the river, the structure is defined by a slender parabolic form expressed through a clean white concrete silhouette. The design emphasizes structural clarity and visual lightness, creating an elegant gesture that responds to the scale of the surrounding landscape while establishing a recognizable identity within the urban fabric.
The pedestrian surface is paved with finely detailed basalt pavers, introducing texture, durability, and material refinement to the experience of crossing. Stainless steel railings frame the route, while integrated LED lighting concealed beneath the handrails enhances safety and accessibility after dark. This discreet lighting strategy also reinforces the bridge’s presence at night, transforming it into a subtle illuminated element within the cityscape.
Beyond its functional role, the project was conceived as a public space in motion—an experience that encourages engagement with the river corridor and its surroundings. Through the careful integration of structure, materiality, and light, the bridge transcends its infrastructural purpose to become a contemporary urban connector that enriches pedestrian mobility and contributes to the public life of Tirana.
