Originally designed by Landscape–Roidis Studio in 1983, the “Odysseus Fokas” Playground in Thessaloniki was among the city’s first purpose-designed public play spaces and quickly became a cherished destination for children and families.
Conceived at a time when playground design in Greece was still in its infancy, the project established a new benchmark by integrating play, landscape, and social interaction within a cohesive outdoor environment. Although the original playground no longer survives, its legacy remains an important chapter in the city’s public realm.
The project reflects the studio’s longstanding commitment to designing inclusive and engaging landscapes that foster community life, creativity, and outdoor recreation.
As an early example of Landscape–Roidis Studio’s work, the playground illustrates a design philosophy centered on the creation of meaningful public spaces that enrich everyday urban experience and strengthen the relationship between people and place.
